Past-Future Commons - Brodie Weir (Second Edition)

£2.00

One year after its original publication, we are very pleased to announce that Past-Future Commons returns in a second edition.

The publication is a tool to understand the legal history of the commons and land ownership in Britain, looking at how the history of resistance and alternative relations to land, and environmental resources can be re-assessed, used, and learnt from to help guide us in a future of environmental uncertainty.

From the radical political dissent of the Diggers during the English Revolution to contemporary struggles across the world, Weir examines the possibilities of collective ownership, solidarity and ecological justice. Through writing, diagrams and archival material, the publication offers a practical exploration of how change has been enacted in the past, and how it might be imagined and pursued today.

Originally developed through Weir's research fellowship with Future Days Festival in Lisbon in 2025, Past-Future Commons is both a proposal and a tool for thinking towards a more cooperative future.

At a moment when the questions it raises feel more pressing than ever, this second edition will be distributed for free, with readers asked only to cover the £2 cost of postage and packaging.
